HARVEST DELAYED!

It has been a very rainy weekend so harvest is at a standstill in SK.  I am at Laurel and Greg's after being discharged from Regina General Hospital on Saturday after supper.  They would not release me until my bladder was working up to their standards so that took a few days after the "uplift".  I am doing well, had a good sleep last night and have been taking it easy.

Greg took the kids to Regina on Sun. afternoon for a swim at Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centre.  There's a hot tub as well as a pool.  They picked up supper at Grekos as Grandma was "cooking".  Laurel and I had chicken souvlaki with Greek salad, garlic toast, baked potato and steamed vegetables. Yumm!  The Riders played in Vancouver  at five so we watched that with our meal. And the Riders won in spite of a "guaranteed win" from the BC Lions coach!  It was a soggy day with over three inches of rain here at the Diekrager farm.

I had a good stay in hospital.  Laurel stayed with me until I went to surgery at 12:45 on Wednesday.  I chose a general anesthetic over a spinal as I did not want to be the slightest bit aware of what was going on!  I didn't even see the doctor who did the surgery until he made rounds the next morning!  I was hooked up to an IV, rolled into surgery and the next thing I knew I was waking up in the recovery room at 3:00.  Laurel came up about five after I was moved to room 7 in the Short Term Stay ward.  It has twelve private rooms for those who are there for just a few days.  The service was great with a wonderful, caring staff who were just the touch of a button away.  I was chilly one evening so my thermostat was turned up and warmed flannel blankets were placed across my tummy.  I also had a cup of hot water to sip.  Can't beat that.  (Thanks Toby!)

It worked out well to have three patients from Torquay in for surgery the same day.  We shared visitors and kept track of each others progress.  I was the first to be discharged as my recovery was shorter.  Pastor Danny and Madeline made a special trip to Regina to visit and it was much appreciated.  I was thankful for my iPhone to keep in touch with family and update them on progress.

I had downloaded several books on my iPad so had lots of reading material along.  When I was discharged, Eric pushed me in the wheelchair to the exit with the iPad in the basket at the back.  When we got to Laurel and Greg's - no iPad!  Laurel quickly phoned the hospital to report where it had been left.  Soon they called back with good news - it had been found and was at security.  Greg picked it up on Sunday.  It's good to know that there are many honest people around as we hear too much about the few that aren't.

I am thankful for all who have kept me in your thoughts and prayers.  I had peace going into surgery with no anxiety at any time.  I will go home later this week and learn not to lift or pull anything over ten pounds, avoid over stretching or reaching until I see Dr. Akimbiyi after eight weeks. Vacuuming is NOT light work.     I may drive a car and climb stairs within reason so that sounds good.

Jodi took care of the guys this week and Theresa's mom will be helping with the cooking when Theresa gets home and when harvest resumes.  There hasn't been as much rain in Torquay area but still over two inches.

My instruction booklet says that I can do light work like washing dishes and cooking so guess I can get back at some duties before long.  I will be careful and will update when I am back home on my own computer.  No pictures this time!

Now it's Monday morning.  Laurel is making soup and muffins this morning.  I brought my recipe collection along so am going to do some "weeding" of that.  I want to get all my favourite recipes in one book instead of scattered over many.  If I haven't tried them, out they go!  Wish me luck.  I will go home in a day or two.
