"Oh it's good to be back home again!" Laurel, Dawson, Eric and Ashley brought me home on Tuesday afternoon. We stopped at Weyburn Co-op to load up on groceries when I had help to load and unload them. A treat at DQ gave us a good start! I also stopped to pick up new floor mats for "Ruby" that Clare had ordered.
Laurel took charge of the cooking, the boys unloaded things and did lots of jobs. Dawson got busy with the Kubota mower. I found the pruner for Eric and he was busy cutting down little trees that start growing where they are not wanted. Dawson and Eric also put together a deep sink cabinet that is waiting to be installed in the washroom. It is great to have all this willing help!
This morning I baked a batch of ginger cookies that I mixed up last night. Now I have a batch of buns rising and soon ready to put on pans. Laurel is busy vacuuming, cleaning the bathrooms and mopping the kitchen floor. She and Dawson are heading home this morning as the combines will soon be rolling again. Eric and Ashley will stay until Sunday. Abbey is celebrating her 13th birthday here on Saturday so the cousins want to be here for that. We are hoping that Kirks will be able to join us too. Kirk has a touch of pneumonia so is on antibiotics for ten days and has doctor's orders to be a couch potato. He is enjoying the new couch they brought home from Minot last weekend.
I can't brag about the buns I made this morning. They raised nicely on the pans but when I took the first pan out of the oven, I knew something was wrong as they hadn't browned or raised much. Did I forget the salt? No, but on thinking back, I hadn't added 2 beaten eggs or 1/2 cup of oil! I guess I can't blame the anesthetic either so must be my absent mindedness. I will try again tomorrow! The cinnamon rolls turned out much better for some reason.
Well, this really isn't my day! Not long after Laurel and Dawson left, Eric came upstairs to tell me that there was water leaking from the ceiling in the basement bathroom. It had to be coming from the upstairs bathroom above it and sure enough, the toilet had overflowed and was still trying to fill, sending more water onto the floor and down to the basement. I got that shut off and went to check downstairs. There was quite a bit more water there and the piece of suspended ceiling above the sink had landed on the toilet. I can't do any lifting so it was great to have Eric's help. He said "It's not really my cup of tea" but was more than willing to help. He gathered up the rugs (that Laurel had just washed this morning!) and put them in the washer again. We found the mop and pail and he went to work. Later he came up for rubber gloves and a mask. Now he is taking a break, but even cleaned off the sink without being asked! Here he is mopping up the hallway heading towards the bathroom.
That's more than enough to update you on today so I will sign off for now and hope the rest of this day goes better than the morning did!
