| Dad in Saskatoon on his 70th birthday (Next year Merv will be that age!) |
I could have done another birthday post today as March 6, 1907 is the day that my dad was born in Glenwood, MN. He moved to Swift Current, SK in 1912. Grandpa Albert Erickson had gone ahead to find work and a place to live. Dad started school at Elmwood School, the same school where I taught a grade one/two class fifty years later in 1964-65. That job led to meeting my neighbour's cousin when he came through on a bus trip. That cousin was Howard Johnson and as the saying goes, the rest is history. We met on March 8, 1965. On this March 8 my grandson Eric will be eleven so that day will always be special. Sandra was making rhubarb sour cream pie in memory of dad today. He loved pie, along with a cup or two of coffee.
The weather is finally warming up with forecasts for above zero by the end of the week. Some areas had more snow yesterday but we were on the edge of it.
I had a new upright deep freeze delivered by Sears on Tuesday. I've had a chest freezer in the basement for many years but struggle to get to the bottom of it so switched to an upright this time. It's in the laundry room on the main floor so that will be handier too.
I'm working on another quilt top, this one for kids as the blocks are assorted fabrics with cars or cartoon figures in red, blue and white blocks. Now I need to find suitable backing for it.
I had a message from Jodi this evening saying that Abbey's basketball team, St. Mikes Tigers, are district champs after their playoffs today. Congratulations Abbey and your junior high team!
