HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIRK!

A horned owl just outside my office window today
I have been featuring the grandkids on my blog for their birthdays, but I'll stop there so don't look for any baby pictures on here today, Kirk!  You won't forget what you did on your 42nd birthday, unless you make a habit of going to Puerto Vallarta on your birthday from now on.  How special that you could spend this week of school break with your family in Mexico. (Suggestion: next time take your mother along too!  LOL)

Clare's are also enjoying the sunny south this week in Phoenix, AZ.
Abbey's friend Chaylene is also with them, her first time flying so doubly exciting for her.  Jodi's brother has a condo in Phonix with a vehicle so that's a great setup to be able to use.  They are looking forward to taking in some ball games as well as doing some golfing.
New outfits for Ashley and Itty Bitty
When the above picture came from Laurel this afternoon I knew that Grandma Gaylene must be back from her winter stay in Hemet, CA.  She has fun shopping for her only granddaughter!

It was my turn to bring lunch for our after service fellowship at Trinity.  We have the option of having a snack with our coffee or making it a meal.  It works well for me to share a meal as it's a treat from my "meals for one".  I decided to make Howard's favourite "Washday Casserole".  It's from "What's Cookin' ?" in Claydon, SK.  The recipe is one from Inez (Lindstrom) Simons, who helped us out back in 1952 when my sister was born three months after Mom had polio and lost the use of her legs.  I just decided to phone Inez and was sorry to learn that she has had a stroke.  I visited with her and Maurice for a few minutes so it was good to be in touch.

We will have our last quilting session of the year on Tuesday.  I will miss those gatherings but can continue to sew tops for next year here at home.  I'll have to make Tuesdays my sewing days.

One of my projects this week was to get rid of some of my "book clutter."  I have a weakness for books and magazines so it was time to move some out but NOT to make room for more!  There are scads of good books at the Torquay library. I've been downloading some on my iPad too, all free ones.  I brought three bags of books to the Estevan Library for their book sale next month.  I found a few books to return to their rightful owners too! I should have taken a "before" picture but here's one taken "after".
There are still too many books on these shelves so I'll have to go through them again for the fall book sale.  I have a few magazines to get rid of so I'll gather up those next.

But now it's bedtime so I better sign off for now.  I have a quilt top to finish tomorrow so my Monday is planned.  Have a good week.

Just a quick update on Rhett.  He was discharged from the hospital on Friday to spend the weekend in Saskatoon.  He is to see the specialist Monday morning at 8:00.  If infection has set in, the doctor will need do surgery before Rhett can go home to the farm. He enjoyed playing with cousins and had a good weekend.  Marion and Jason got some much needed rest too.
