| Making a wish |
What if life was that simple, that you could get what you wished for just like that! You might have heard the expression - Be careful what you wish for! (There's at least one song by that name and also a book.) It's good advice. We don't always know what is best for us so it's a good thing we don't get everything we wish, or even that we pray for. God knows our needs much better than we do and sometimes the answer is no, or wait awhile or sometimes the answer comes before we even have prayed about it!
On Monday, I might have wished for a man around the house who checked the basement cold room when there was a strong, cold north west wind. But since there isn't one, I have no one to blame but myself for not doing that. I found out that I had a problem when no water came out of the kitchen tap in the morning. There was a bit of water on the floor in that storage room (or my store as Clare calls it!) but I wasn't sure if snow had blown in and melted or if there was a leak. No water was dripping but then the pump had shut off thanks to a check valve that Bob Cranna had put in.a few years ago. There is a vent to the outside from that room. I had covered it with a cardboard box but that had been pushed out onto the floor by the strong winds. When Clare and Bob came today, they found the problem - a broken pipe that went through that room from the pump to the tank in the furnace room. It just couldn't take those freezing temperatures! Clare had the needed parts and the leak was soon fixed and the pump running again. I always keep a couple big jugs of drinking water on hand and another one with "wash water" in it so I was fine for a day or two. It makes a person really appreciate the things we take for granted until they are gone. I was glad it wasn't the power that was off! Sandra said their power was off for 4 hours yesterday so it's a good thing it wasn't as cold there.
I got out some fabric today and cut squares for a quilt top, the first one I've tackled this year! I still have some 9 inch denim squares that Lawrence cut from old jeans of Howard's and the boys so I'm combining them with cotton squares for this top. I'll show you a picture when it's done.
I even took out a hardanger project that I haven't touched for quite a while. I like to do that in the daylight so will try to work on it every afternoon now. There is a hardanger group on Facebook that I joined so some of their lovely work is inspiring me to get back at it.
Tonight I also took out the accordion and started going through the book that Susie compiled for our group, "Homespun Harmonies". Several of the members go south in the winter so we don't get together much these days. It's just as well as I don't like to commit when the weather is so cold and changeable. I don't like driving after dark either. But winter is a good time to brush up on my playing!
Five year old Ashley spent the weekend with Auntie Danita and her family. She had a great time with her cousins. They even built a "tent" for her in the family room so here she is with her favourite "pet".
Here's another picture of her with her "Elsa" doll from the movie "Frozen".
Nora has been out hiking so I'll add the latest picture of her too. It doesn't look much like winter there! They have booked flights to Canada! They are flying Icelandair this time so will go through Iceland to Edmonton the end of June and return from there a month later. It makes for a much shorter flight with the longest stretch of 6 1/2 hours instead of over 9.
Clare sent this picture of a clock that Howard bought that finally has a place to hang. You can also see Abbey's school picture below it.
With that, I better get off the computer and get at some morning chores. Thanks for stopping by!
