After not leaving the yard for a week, it was a treat to go to town on Tuesday for quilting! There were five of us out so it was a good start for the first day of quilting in 2014. We'll be at it every Tuesday until the end of March so feel free to join us as we always welcome another pair of hands to tie quilts or to zigzag around the edges. Some jobs are already taken - Vi and Narrie put the top, filler and back together, Caroline pins around the edges and then someone zigzags around those edges before it's off to be tied. It's a fun day with lots of good visiting and always a tasty potluck dinner. I took one quilt home to tie but it's more fun to work at it together!
I had a letter to mail so I went to the post office after lunch and also got the mail. It was almost like Christmas again with several cards and pictures in the mailbox. Then I drove to Ambrose after quilting and had the same thing happen there, plus a surprise Christmas gift in the mail (and a new mat to put in front of the kitchen sink that I had ordered from Amazon.com). I went home, sat down in my recliner and enjoyed nine more Christmas greetings. Never worry about a Christmas card being "late". Any time is a great time to hear from friends and family! I don't worry about the price of Canadian stamps going up to 85 cents in April either. All my family and friends are worth at least 85 cents a year plus the cost of the card or letter! I did send a few email greetings and I was happy to get several too but there's something special about finding an envelope with familiar handwriting on it. It's great to spend a few minutes in touch with that special person who took the time (and stamp money) to let me know they have been thinking of me.
Now it's Thursday morning so I better finish this off before I head uptown for library time at ten. Then I have an appointment in Estevan to get an oil change on my Escape. I also need to stock up on groceries so will pay a visit to the Co-op too.
And that part of my day went well, made all the stops that I had on my list. I headed home about four o'clock, enjoying the first day of almost mild temperatures after being in a deep freeze for the last week or so. When I left the house this morning I went back to get the food for the cats and discovered that I couldn't unlock the door! It's one of those locks where you punch in a code but this time it didn't work. I needed to be on my way to the library and fortunately I had already put my purse in the Escape. My iPhone was still on the charger but having the phone along wasn't a big concern now that the weather wasn't so bitterly cold. I thought that the lock might work after it sat for a while. There was a chance that one of the other doors might be unlocked too. But when I got home, my code still didn't work in the door and the other two doors were locked too. I had even prayed that there would be a way for me to get in, and there was, just not the way I'd been expecting! I was happy to see a pickup by the shop so I walked over there and found Jason and Reg working away. I shared my problem with them and soon we were getting a ladder to try getting in a window but no luck there as they were locked from the inside. A basement window provided the answer and Jason climbed through and unlocked the door. Then he and Reg worked on the lock and got it to work again. There are keys to use as well as a code, but it seems the keys are in Clare's pickup in Weyburn. Next time he comes down I'll be sure one is on my keychain in my vehicle!
So all's well that ends well and a lesson learned besides. Now I'm thinking that I didn't tell you about the problem I had with my glasses again. I lost them for the second time, searched everywhere in the house and had finally just quit looking for them and gone without for a few weeks. At Christmas time Greg went out to push some snow off the deck, and came in with my glasses! They were hanging on one of the chairs, a bit frosty but none the worse for their time in the cold and snow. I had been out on the deck sweeping it off after the first snowfall but did not remember leaving them out there! They say "three times and out" but I'm determined not to lose them a third time. The first time I found them on the floor in the linen closet and don't know how they got there either. Maybe a Norsk nisse has been playing tricks on me. I better get them packed away in a box!
I still have some Christmas things around so tomorrowI am going to focus on cleaning up the place. I'll have to take some breaks to check out the Scrabble games though! No pictures today so you'll have to use your imaginations. Enjoy the above average temperatures that we are promised for the next week!
Wow, that was an interesting day!! Glad you had help to break in your house. Glad you had your purse and keys, that is what happened to Julia on the farm. Sure is warming here, melting today and to be +6 on Saturday. Better keep those glasses on! Take care
