CANADA DAY!

A Canada Day breakfast in Norway

Canada Day eh!
Our July 1 began with an email from Todd and Kristy showing us a picture of their special Canada Day breakfast - French toast with strawberries and bacon!  Then another email with them in their team Canada jerseys ready to deliver special red and white cupcakes to several of their friends.  They were celebrating Canada better than we were in Canada!

Ashley wanted pancakes for breakfast so that's what we had.  It was appropriate as the first time I made this pancake recipe was on July 1, 1997.  It was a noteworthy day as we had three inches of rain and the July 1 celebrations at Oungre were cancelled.  Not so today.  The sun shone brightly most of the day with a light shower this evening. We could use a good rain now.  The canola fields are in full bloom and are gorgeous.  Ashley insists that they are dandelions!

After breakfast we went to Torquay for morning worship at 10:30.  After coffee fellowship we headed for Oungre.  Ashley was anxious to go to the park. To her a "park"is a play park.  So that was our first stop once we found a parking spot.  Ashley was content to listen to music after spending half an hour on the slides and climbing structures with some new friends.

We enjoyed the afternoon Jamboree with music by Link Union, Hansen Trio, Randy King, the Daae Family and Marty Raybon.  Ashley couldn't resist standing up and moving to the music for a few of the livelier numbers.  She has a good sense of rhythm!

Clare, Jodi and Abbey came in the afternoon after picking their camper up at the farm.  They are going to join Kirk's at Kenosee this week.  Abbey will be playing ball in Regina this week-end so that is exciting.

We went to Salem cemetery when we got back from Oungre.  The plants needed watering and we also lit a candle beside Howard's grave.  Kirk's put some solar lights there but it wasn't dark enough to see them when we left.

So now it's bedtime and we've had another first as last year Howard was with us last July 1 at Oungre.  It was a good day although some of the songs brought a few tears.  It was good to have Laurel and Ashley with me for the weekend.  Greg and the boys spent the weekend with his mom at her cottage at Echo Lake so both the grandmas were well taken care of.  Thanks Greg and Laurel!
