Three peas in a pod
Abbey, Jamie, Lindsay
Clare's and Kirk's families were camping at Kenosee this past week so the cousins had a good time together as you can see by this picture.
I had a little more ambition this week, actually defrosted and cleaned the deep freeze in the basement! I need to get an upright one as too much "stuff" ends up in the bottom and stays there way too long. It's a good thing to have three cats who enjoy some "real food" after living on bags of cat food most of the time.
Laurel ordered some special note cards for me from Shutterfly so I've been using some as thank yous for those who provided food for our big family and bed and breakfast for guests who were here for Howard's funeral. It's taken me awhile to get around to these, but I just wasn't in the mood until the past week or so. I didn't want to mail the Torquay ones so have been delivering them instead. It's been a good experience and one that I hope to keep up, even if I don't have a reason to visit. Just getting together with a friend should be reason enough but we don't do much of that anymore. It's time for a change!
Every Sunday after service we enjoy visiting over coffee and goodies. It was my turn to bring lunch this Sunday so I mixed up some ginger cookies and made a batch of flatbread. Those are my two specialties when it comes to baking. I put all whole wheat flour plus some ground flax in the cookies. The flatbread has whole wheat flour, some white flour, cornmeal, oatmeal, ground flax and wheat germ so it's on the healthy side too. I wouldn't want to be without my flour mill and a supply of hard red spring wheat to grind.
Abbey played in a provincial ball tournament in Regina this weekend. They won their first game against Davidson on Friday night and had two games on Saturday. They made it to the semi-finals on Sunday so did well. Abbey even pitched a couple innings in their last game. They had a close game and a good experience even though they didn't come out as the winning team. Here are some pictures, thanks to Jody.

Today the Johnson's joined the Diekragers at their cottage on Echo Lake. Greg had initiated their new boat last weekend so today Dawson, Eric and Abbey had fun on the water. All three tried water skiing but Dawson held out the longest - nine minutes according to Uncle Clare. No pictures of that but here's one of the three with Greg.

Sunset on Echo Lake
Now the sun has set and the adults are enjoying a peaceful ride on the lake. And it's bedtime for Grandma so I better finish this and head for bed. I had a quiet day - came home after church, had a rest, watched the Rider game and made myself Campbell's chicken and rice dish for supper along with the last of the asparagus from the garden for this year. Then I watered part of the lawn to keep it alive during these hot days.
On the way home from church I stopped at the cemetery. The red flowers on Howard's grave are all doing well - geraniums, petunias, wave petunias and portulaca. If nothing else survives, the portulaca will! I'll take a picture next week before I leave for Norway as there should be quite a few blossoms by then. Have a good week. See you on Wednesday.
Monday morning update: A lightning and thunder storm got me out of bed and down to the basement at 3 this morning. It was over before four so I went back to sleep. What a blessing to find 7/10 of an inch of rain in the gauge this morning when I went for my walk. No hail either!
