Sunday May 6

Ready to board the STC bus to Milestone

It's been a raw, windy day so I spent most of Sunday inside, except for a trip to town this morning to attend worship service at Trinity.  After the service we voted to decide the future of our congregation.  The vote was unanimous to accept the new constitution and to join the church of the Lutheran Brethren.  We will be part of a two point parish with Faith Lutheran in Estevan.  We could not have carried on without the assistance of Faith and are thankful that we are still able to meet as a congregation in Torquay.  Pastor Daniel Krauss and his wife Madeline make their home in the parsonage in Torquay.  Pastor Robert Schultz and his wife Melanie live in Estevan.  They will be leaving the end of June as Pastor Bob will be continuing his seminary training in Fergus Falls, MN.  A pastor from Washington has been called by Faith and joins worship Pastor Caleb Rieger, who is also from the state of Washington.

The trip to Milestone with Ashley on Thursday was lots of fun.  I left the Escape across from the bus station and we were on our way shortly after 5:15 pm.  I took a couple pictures of Ashley on her first bus ride, one before we got on and one in the seat that she picked out.  She had a booster seat along and that worked out great for her as she had a good view out the window.

The "Princess" is excited to be on our way.

When Ashely got on wearing her tiara, a fellow behind us remarked "There's a princess on the bus!" He was Ashley's instant friend!  She was fascinated with watching the view out the window.  She thought there might be alligators in the waters along the road and was thrilled with all the dandelions that she saw.  Finally we got to see a train, then two more.  We drove past Abbey's school in Weyburn and Ashley really wanted to spend some time at the park nearby! But on we went and Greg and Eric were there waiting for us when we got to Milestone about ten after seven.  Ashley was excited to see  them, and then her mom and Dawson when we got to the farm.  Laurel had supper ready for us and Ashley was happy to have corn on the cob.  (So was Grandma!)  Before we went to bed she reminded me "Don't snore, Grandma".  If I did, she didn't hear me but I guess Laurel did!

It rained about an inch over night, not good news when seeding is just nicely underway.  It takes patience to be a farmer again this spring.  Greg took me to the bus at noon and didn't have to detour to get there.  Ashley was all set to go back on the bus with me but consented to go and visit Grandma Gaylene instead.  She just lives a couple miles away.

When I boarded the bus it was a pleasant surprise to see two Midale ladies whom I knew - Margaret Pederson and Bev Sobush.  We had gotten to know each other through ELW events.  I sat right across from them and we had a good visit.  Laurel had packed a lunch for me so I enjoyed that on the way.  We got to Estevan right on time at 2:15 and I headed up to St. Joe's to visit Howard as soon as I maneuvered the Escape out of a tight parking spot.  There was a funeral at the United Church so there were lots of cars parked on nearby streets.

Howard was glad to see me and enjoyed his can of Pepsi.  He was pleased that Mitch and Cyril Marcotte had been to visit him.  Howard and Cyril were classmates at Torquay School and Howard has always enjoyed visiting with him.  He also enjoyed many cups of hot chocolate with Mitch when he had the grain cleaning plant east of Torquay.  Those visits mean a lot to him.

I was back to Estevan on Saturday afternoon after a trip to Lampman for Lindsay and Jamie's dance recital.  It was fun to have Abbey along.  She came down with Clare and Jodi at noon and I met them in Torquay.  Lindsay was in five dances, including a solo and Jamie was in one, a cute Gummy Bear selection.  The dance teacher and her dad had built a stage in the skating rink that worked out great for the afternoon with twenty-four events.  They rolled along like clock work with a brief intermission.  It was over around three thirty. Then we went to Kirk and Shauna's so the cousins could have some time together.  Here's a picture of the girls.

After we visited at St. Joes's, Abbey and I drove home in pouring rain. It had let up a bit when we got south of Torquay.  There was an inch on Thursday night and another half inch on Friday.  It's raining again as I type so there might not be much seeding done this week.

Well, that pretty well sums up the events of the last few days.  I don't have any commitments for this week so maybe I'll get some decluttering done in the house and hopefully some work done in the yard. Have a great week!
