Wednesday Words - a "Gofer"

I'm going to start this blog with a "before" and "after" picture of Dawson's first painting project.  This little red chair was his Grandma Gaylene's.  She said that it originally belonged to her aunt, her dad's sister.  Dawson sanded it, put on undercoat, then painted it the same light yellow as Ashley's room.  Keep it up, Dawson!

I have found out that I am needed at the farm!  I've made two trips to Crosby in three days to "go fer" needed supplies for Clare.  On Monday I had just over an hour to get there and back with sprayer parts before the border closed at four SK time.  I had ten minutes to spare when I got back to the Torquay port! This morning I went back to get a new tire for the drill. When I got to the US customs I discovered that my passport wasn't with me!  I had cleaned out my lug bag and set my passport on the cupboard, then failed to put it back again.  I expected to be sent home to get it but I guess I've been down often enough that I'm not a threat.  My driver's license was good enough to get me through today but I'll double check next time I head south!

Crosby and area has lots of action going on.  I met many big trucks on the highway, several of them hauling oil. The road south of the customs has many bad breaks and a reduced speed limit.  A few miles west of Crosby there is a sign "200 Person Mancamp" that is being developed for workers in the oil industry.  The former pasta plant just east of Crosby is now being converted to "New Century Ag Truck Stop".  That's where I went to get the tire.  They don't have bill paying services yet so I took the bill to the garage uptown to pay for the tire.  The workers were very helpful and I was taken care of right away, and fortunate to get the only tire of that size that was in stock!

I made a quick stop at the grocery store and Clare and I enjoyed orange sherbet for dessert after our bowls of Michael's turkey vegetable soup.

On Tuesday I went to visit Howard.  It was a record setting day, temperature wise, going up to 30 degrees in Estevan.  I took Howard outside in his wheelchair but we had to find some shade as it was too hot on the sunny side.  Then we took the elevator up to visit Clara (Grimsrud) Bod in the hospital.  She is going to have surgery in Regina next week.  I also got a license for the old 1979 fuel truck and hope that SGI will allow Howard to pass his personal "HO JO" license plate on to Clare.

There are a few farmers who have started seeding.  Clare has been spraying and if the rain stays away he should be out seeding by the end of the week.

I mailed a parcel to Todd and Kristy from Ambrose - some Runner's World and Good Housekeeping magazines.  I came across a bundle of letters from family in Norway written in 1911 so sent them along too.  They were written by Grandma Haaland's mother but had been typed.  I'm not sure who had done that or where the originals are.  I brought a package of old letters to mom's cousin, Elise, when we went to Norway so perhaps those were the original letters.

Well, it's bedtime so I'll publish this tonight while it's still Wednesday!  See you on Sunday.
