Thursday words

I changed this week's blog to Thursday words as I've missed Wednesday again!  I guess moving back to the farm has put me off schedule.

It's been a busy week!  On Sunday evening our Torquay Grannies were invited to  take part in "Young at Heart" at the Church of God in Estevan.  The evening started with a light meal in the "Living Room", the former sanctuary converted into an informal setting complete with fireplace, easy chairs and round tables.  Hymn books were placed on each table and we all joined in singing some of these old favourite gospel songs interspersed with dessert, the "Grannies", and stories by the entertaining emcee, Walter Engel.  I was reminded of singing these same songs as a teenager at Bethel Lutheran in Frontier.  "Christian Service Songs" was our songbook.  I've been able to find several of those books on eBay.

The Torquay Grannies sang several selections.  We enjoy getting together to sing, just don't do it often enough! Only one of us lives in Torquay and that's Vickie (and Darrell) Skjonsby.  Phyllis (and Bob) Hurren are in Estevan, Vi (and Randy) Sabin are on the farm south-east of Torquay and I'm on the farm south-west of Torquay, with Howard in Estevan.  We are all members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Torquay and we are all grannies!  Phyllis has 13 grandchilren, Vi has 8, Vickie has 5 plus 3 step-grandchildren and I have 7 with the eighth due to arrive the end of August.  That  makes a total of thirty-six so we are well qualified to be called "Grannies"!

On Monday I finished moving out of my winter home.  I must have taken more "stuff" with me every time I went to the farm as I had three loads of it to take home!   I've been busy finding a place for everything and will have to do some decluttering to get rid of some of it.  Where to start??

On the way home I stopped at Trinity to help set up tables for the funeral on Thursday.  Teresa Halvorson passed away on Sunday at the age of 81.  She was a resident of Hillview Manor in Estevan and just spent a night in the hospital when breathing became difficult.  Teresa was a teacher in Torquay School for many years and continued to tutor students in math after she retired.  She took part in our quilting days and sewed many many tops besides crocheting numerous baby sweaters for layettes.  Her daughter, Narrie Lowe,  works with Vi Sabin to keep our quilting group going.

So it is appropriate that the quilts are still on the pews today for Teresa's funeral service.  Even though she struggled with MS, Teresa was there to help tie quilts as long as she lived in Torquay. Many babies were kept warm with one of Teresa's beautiful sweaters.  Blessed be her memory.

I visited Howard yesterday and he was glad to see me.  His pulse was in the normal range but is still erratic.  He wasn't shaky and could handle his cup of coffee quite well.  He likes Pepsi so I bring him one of those small cans on each visit.  If I forget to give it to him, he asks if I have one so looks forward to his "treat".

Well, the buns are ready to go into the oven so I better get off the computer and get to work!  See you on Sunday.
