This afternoon I headed over to St. Joe's Care Home around two o'clock. By that time it had warmed up to plus four and water was gathering in puddles on the streets and running alongside the curb when I parked. I don't think it got as windy as was forecast either but no one was complaining about that.
The fourth Wednesday of the month is usually "the birthday party" for residents at St. Joseph's Special Care Home. This month John Kiniak had the only January birthday. He was born on January 20, 1916 in Manitoba. Our "Torquay Grannies" entertained with several trio numbers, piano music by Vi, piano and accordion songs by Vickie and Elaine followed by a singsong with the residents taking part. Vickie brought a maraca and John very capably kept time with that. He played drums for many years and hadn't forgotten how to keep the beat! It's too bad that he doesn't have a chance to still do some drumming.
Bob came along with Phyllis so Howard enjoyed visiting with him. We used to sing mixed quartettes with Phyllis and Bob but didn't try one today. Maybe next time.
I enjoyed two quilting days this week, one at Trinity, Torquay and the other at Trinity, Estevan. It's interesting to pick up little tips from another group. When they don't have squares on the quilt to make it easier to know where to put the ties, someone takes a piece of chalk and a cardboard square and marks the spot for each tie. No crooked rows of ties on their quilts! The one thing that was the same is the good fellowship, always time for that over coffee breaks and during noon lunch.
I've been lazy this week, no quilt tops even started yet. It's not that I'm short of material either. I just can't seem to decide what to do with it so I've done nothing. I'll have to make up for it the rest of this week!
Tomorrow morning is the weekly church service at St. Joe's. They haven't had one for over a month with Christmas and then the lockdown. I usually go and attend that with Howard. Sometimes I play for the service if a piano player is needed. Some months different local churches take turns having the service and they usually bring a piano player along.
Laurel sent a picture of Dawson on his 11th birthday so I'll close with that. He's enjoying a favourite brownie along with a scoop of ice cream with two big candles placed side by side to make an 11.
