WEDNESDAY WORDS - JAN 18

Todd between two cruise ships on the Mediterranean
Costa Concordia on the left, MSC Fantasia on the right
We travelled on the Fantasia in 2010

When I was visiting on Skype with Todd this morning, he told me that the cruise ship that ran aground this past week was the one that was travelling along with us on our Mediterranean Cruise.  I thought I'd share this picture that shows the two ships docked together.  It is hard to imagine how such a huge ship could end up tipped on its side.  It's 100 years in April since the Titanic disaster and similarities are being noted.  Theme music from the Titanic movie was said to be playing on the ship's sound system when the Costa ran aground.  Had this ship not been so close to shore, the casualties would likely have been much higher.  But then, if the ship hadn't been so close to shore, the accident wouldn't have happened!  Neither disaster should have happened and human error seems to be a big part of the reason for both.  In spite or all the sophisticated equipment on board, mistakes made by a captain or others in charge can negate the value of all that high tech.  I'm thankful that we had such a wonderful experience on our Mediterranean cruise, something that can't be taken for granted.

It's a COLD day in Saskatchewan with windchills in the minus 40 degrees.  That's the same whether you think in F or C!  I'm staying put today.  I still can't visit Howard and it's been three weeks today since I was last at St. Joseph's.  I'm thankful that he hasn't been one of the sick residents.  I talked to him last night.  He was upset that I was gone when he woke up!  So I guess he doesn't realize how long it's been since I had visited him and that's good.  Aunt Viola is concerned because she has been losing weight.  The doctor was going to check on her situation today.

I finished a quilt top yesterday and got it pressed this morning.  Now I have another one laid out on the floor, ready to pin.  These are 12 1/2 inch squares so it just takes 35 blocks to make a 60" x 80" quilt, the size that Lutheran World Relief asks that we make for shipment overseas.  It's a good job for a very wintery day.  I also curled up with a book yesterday afternoon, a good day for that too.

Well, I haven't put in time on the treadmill today so I better go down and do that before it's lunch time.
Have a good rest of the week and keep warm!
