The first day of spring arrived officially this week, but unofficially on Friday, March 23 we were in the middle of a snowstorm, which didn't look much like spring. A robin was chirping just outside our living-room window that morning. He wasn't happy with our "spring" weather either.

Friday was Kirk's 46th birthday. I thought he'd get a snow day but he had gone to work in Carlyle with plans to head home early. Shauna was making carrot cake when I called.

My last post featured Alan and Judy's 50th anniversary. Last Sunday their kids and grandkids were all home for a celebration so here are two pictures from that event.

Abbey and Team Haupstein were in Swift Current this weekend for U18 curling provincials. We were able to keep track of their games through Facebook. They didn't win their way to Canadians but had some good games and have made many new friends through these competitions.
A Torquay connection did very well at speed skating at Can Westerns last week in Abbotsford, BC. Bon Lowe, 14 year old son of Kaley Lowe (and grandson of Trevor and Narrie Lowe (Halvorson, David and Teresa's daughter) came away with 4 gold medals and 1 silver. We just might see him in the next winter olympics as he got 2 gold and 3 silver at Sask Winter Games, and 1 gold and 2 silver at Nationals in Quebec. Congratulations Bon!

Both boys are driving now that Eric has his learners license. How time flies, no little boys in the Johnson family anymore!
Ashley was in a dance competition in Strasberg, SK this weekend. Roads and weather were not good on Saturday so Greg drove. The event took place in an old theatre so the men were happy with the good seating! Ashley's tap group won two awards on Saturday. I will add some pictures of her dance costumes.

I was visiting on Facetime with Nora in Norway when I was at quilting on Tuesday. Each of the ladies said hello to Nora and I told her about Carolyn Cranna's triplet granddaughters. She couldn't quite grasp that concept so I sent her pictures of these three and I will share them with you too. They were born on February 1, each weighing over 5 pounds.

Today, Palm Sunday, we had potluck lunch after our morning service at Trinity, then drove to Lampman and spent the day with Kirk and family, a belated birthday celebration complete with roast beef supper and birthday cupcakes. Here's a picture!
We arrived just in time to watch the final game of the Ladies World Curling from North Bay, Ontario. It was a very exciting game between Olympic Champion Team Sweden and Canadian Tournament of Hearts champion Team Canada. The game was tied after ten ends of play and went to the eleventh before Canada ended up winning 8-7. Jennifer Jones didn't have to throw her final rock as Sweden's last rock was wide. Now Alan has a week with no curling to watch until the Mens Worlds starts on Saturday in Vegas!

But Major League Baseball season begins this week so that will keep him busy watching! His sore back is improving and he's back to driving again. With spring road conditions we can't take some of the side roads now so we are forced to take the highway south of Torquay. It has to be one of the worst in SK!!
On Tuesday we will have our last day of quilting at Trinity for this season. I'll have some pictures and numbers on my next blog.
Trinity Lutheran, Torquay will have a Good Friday Service and Easter Service with breakfast to follow, both at 9 am. Visitors are always welcome!
