GOODBYE FEB, HELLO MARCH

UPDATE:  Here's a new picture of Nancy turning fifty.  Now  you can see her pretty face with no fish hiding it as on the picture farther down this page!

Trevor and Nancy on her 50th birthday

March 5 at the Johnson farm

Monday was a snow day, so a good day to catch up on my blog. March came in like a lamb, for three days.  Then the lion arrived on the 4th with heavy snow and northwest winds!  We are in need of moisture so "lion weather" is really the lamb kind for farmers.

Clare was storm stayed in Wadena where Abbey and Team Haupstein were curling this past weekend.  They curled their way to the provincial U18 tournament which will take place in Swift Current on March 22 -25. Congratulations girls and coaches!

Abbey is next to Clare

Alan had a Dr. appointment in Weyburn on Monday but changed it to Wed. as weather and roads aren't good. Last week he woke up with such pain in his lower back.  He had x-rays last Tuesday and was to get the results today.  He is more comfortable this week but it still hurts when he changes position, is okay while sitting or lying down.  He's spending quite a bit of time watching the Brier curling playdowns from Regina that are on TV all this week.  He also was happy to find an MLB channel that shows three spring training ballgames each day!

Our quilting was cancelled for Tuesday so I did some work at home.  I am sewing four inch fortrel squares together to make lap robes for nursing home residents in Estevan.  I had some lime green minky on hand so that's what I'm backing them with.  It's so cosy!
We missed our "fun day" this week.  Here's what happens when Vi gets sorting through donations of cloth. This pink piece made a good picture frame!
Peek a Boo!

There have been several birthdays in the family since my last post. Lindsay turned fourteen on Feb. 26, just two days after Kirk's family got back from their trip to Disneyland and Las Vegas.  They had so much fun!
Lindsay about to turn fifteen!
Kirk's on the High Roller at Vegas!
It's soon 35 years since Kirk had his eleventh birthday in Disneyand.  We celebrated with supper at a Howard Johnson restaurant!  I'll have to get those pictures put on my computer so I can share some in a blog!

Ashley was ten on March 2.  She had two friends come for a sleepover and a "pink party".  They dressed up in pink outfits, put on pink makeup and enjoyed pink smoothies.  Thanks to tickets from Clare, Jodi and Abbey (plus this pink Tim Horton's brier shirt) she was able to take in a Brier Game in Regina on the weekend!

My Dad was born on March 6, 1907 in Glenwood, Minnesota, 111 years ago.  He was a lover of pie so we are having an apple one in his memory tonight.  My grandma bought a Kodak camera before they moved to Canada in 1912.  She developed and printed post card size pictures so we are blessed with lots of pictures of the homestead days around Frontier.
Confirmation Day

Dad would have been 40 as I was five.

Alan's daughter Nancy will have her 50th birthday on March 7 so he has been a parent for fifty years!  I will have my turn in December when Laurel turns 50 on the 16th. Nancy and Trevor enjoyed a recent holiday in Mexico.  Here they are with the catch of the day - before and after!  Have a very Happy Birthday, Nancy!
I will get a birthday picture of her face!

Fishing at Cabo San Lucas
Enjoying the mackerel!

Eric will be fifteen on March 8.  He will be able to get his learner's drivers license that day as he took the driver training course through the school last fall. That will be the highlight of his day!

Dawson found some "wheels" last month through kijiji in Regina so is now the proud owner of a shiny red 2008 Chevy Sierra pickup.  Congrats!

It's now Wednesday morning.  Gerry was here and opened up our yard so we can head for Weyburn after lunch.  The roads may be somewhat icy but we will take our time.  I'll be at the wheel!

Judy was discharged from Pasqua Hospital on Saturday so they got home before the storm.  Alan and Judy's 50th anniversary is on Friday, March 9.  They won't be doing much celebrating that day but will have a delayed family gathering later.  I'll do a special blog on Friday for them.

Take care.  See you later this week!
