This weekend was very special as we had four granddaughters spend it with us - Abbey, Lindsay, Jamie and Ashley. They arrived Friday night and left after supper on Sunday.
Sunday morning we all went to morning worship at Trinity at nine. Abbey and Lindsay agreed to take part in the prelude.(Abbey thought they should be there at seven and do their part then!) Clare's daughter Abbey, who turns 16 next Thursday and is in grade 11, played "God of Our Fathers" on her trumpet. Lindsay, who is Kirk's daughter and is in grade 8, played "The Lord's My Shepherd" on her flute. I told them to always bring their instruments when they come to visit as I love to hear them play. We can always work them into a part in Sunday service too.
We have three extra bedrooms but they were all empty last night as the girls prefer to all sleep in the family room downstairs. I guess they enjoy the "pyjama party" when they can all be in one room. They enjoyed hiding Easter eggs this afternoon! I have a set of 12 "Resurrection Eggs", plastic ones that each contain a symbol of the Easter story - like 3 nails, a spear, coins etc. and an empty one to represent the empty tomb. After that they spent a quiet afternoon as they watched The Titanic movie on VHS. Ashley loves the movie, Milo and Otis so she watched that yesterday.
Abbey wanted to make pizza so that's what we did on Saturday afternoon. They each had a turn to roll the dough.

The quality of this harvest is surprisingly good with less than two inches of rain during the growing season. Yields are light, as expected but some are better than we thought they'd be. The crops were well rooted and that's what saved them from being a total failure. Harvest had to wait for the second growth to dry some. They've done what they can over east and the durum here at home so on Monday they moved 19 miles west to do the lentils there. They were running about 4 bushels per acre today, so hardly worth combining. Crop insurance will be helpful on those fields.
We had missed Jamie's 10th birthday on July 31st and won't be at Abbey's 16th this Thursday so we had a little party on Saturday evening. I was going to make cupcakes but Jodi brought a chocolate cake so that was the birthday cake along with ice cream ..... and some presents.
On Tuesday these seven grandchildren will be back at school - Dawson, Abbey and Carter in grade eleven, Eric in nine, Lindsay in eight, Jamie in five and Ashley in four. Have a great year!
This will be a busy week with back to school on the fifth and three birthdays on the seventh - Auntie Ardis, Abbey(16) and Nora (5). I wish we could have birthday cake with each of you. I'm planning to make cupcakes and we can eat one for each birthday girl! We'll try to Facetime you too. Have a very Happy Birthday!
