IT'S FALL!

Our champion grade six runner!

Alan and I enjoyed watching granddaughter Lindsay do her first cross country race of this year in Estevan on Wednesday afternoon.  It was cool with a strong wind from the east but good for runners, not spectators.  I wished I had worn a warmer jacket but Lindsay was hot after crossing the finish line in first place - AGAIN!  She manages to keep that position every time.  The grade sixes run 2 km and she did it in 7 minutes. Districts will be in Weyburn after Thanksgiving so we hope to watch her there too.

Alan and I had just come from Dr. Sliva's office where we had our eyes checked. (He had drops in his eyes, hence the need for sunglasses!) Neither of us needed new lenses and Alan didn't have to pay for his checkup as they are covered for those who have diabetes. (He has type 2)  I am near sighted so take my glasses off to read and am still able to do that, no need for bifocals yet!

The calendar says it's fall but we still have some "summer" weather to enjoy with a high of 28ยบ C forecast for tomorrow and just a little cooler the next day.  We have just had a touch of frost so far.

Tomorrow afternoon our accordion group is playing at the Regional Nursing Home.  I am looking forward to that as it won't be long until many of our group will be heading for the sunny south again.  About half the group are "snowbirds" who spend most of the winter in Arizona.  We lost Ella, our piano player, to cancer this year.  Vickie and Vi are both good a playing by ear or by note so they will be filling in. (No one can take her place!) Vi plans to be with us tomorrow.

Clare turned 45 on Tuesday and today Jodi caught up to him.  They are having renovations done on their house.  The exterior is done except for the closed in veranda on the east and south as you can see on this recent picture.  The upstairs has new windows as well as siding.  Plans are in place to fix up the third storey this fall.  Before the window on the west went in, a crane also moved in the sheets of gyprock and leather furniture that would not make it up the steep and narrow stairway.  It will be an ideal "hangout" for Abbey and her friends.

Clare didn't have to spend this birthday on the combine but here are a couple harvest pictures that Laurel took when she came down with Dawson and Ashley a couple weeks ago.  It looks like corn on the cob was on the menu, always a hit at harvest time.  We also got to see Kirk's new blue work truck with Precision Ag!

Well, you never know when you will find a new blog post these days!  I should have had a picture of the football players in the family - Dawson and Eric but I have misplaced them.  Maybe I can add them tomorrow.  Dawson's football playing came to an end for this year as he broke his collarbone in hockey tryouts last week.  (He still made the team!)

Enjoy this last week of September and first week of fall!
