REMEMBRANCE DAY

Painting on the wall of a building in Lacombe, Alberta
(the grass, poppies and other plants are real)
It has been nine days since my last blog post so I must catch up on this Remembrance Day.

On Saturday we had a real work bee around here.  Kirk, Carter, Lindsay and Jamie as well as Clare and Abbey all came out for the day.  Abbey had a new pair of overalls and work gloves so was all set.  The kids climbed up on the roof and cleaned out the eave troughs.  They also helped Clare put up new shelving units in the shop and got them filled up.  It made quite a difference in there!
Kirk was busy cleaning out the garage.  I stayed away lest I try to keep items that needed to be thrown!  Grandma made pancakes for the crew and that kept them going through the afternoon.
Cleaning out the eave troughs.  Were you the supervisor, Carter?

Time for a break from work!

I had some dental work done on Tuesday. (Thanks for taking me, Heather!) When the dentist started to prepare for a crown on a back tooth, he spotted infection on my gum.  That meant a different approach including a root canal. The dental work schedule was changed to give time for the infection
to clear up before they proceed with the root canal and finish off with the crown.
Happy 35th birthday, Kristy!
Kristy celebrated her birthday on Nov. 4th and was well remembered by family and friends, new and old.  Nora thought that she should open the presents and blow out the candles and I'm sure that she got to help.

November 4 thirty years ago was the day that Mom passed away in Saskatoon.  Sandra and I had visited her that weekend and I went home on Saturday.  Sandra visited her on Sunday before heading for home with a friend.  She tucked her in after her lunch, put a cassette in  the player bought with Mom's first pension cheque and said her good-byes.  She likely wasn't out of the city when a nurse discovered that Mom had died in her sleep.

That morning after church I had gotten a Creative Circle kit from the friend who had ordered it.  The cross-stitch pattern read "When God closes a door, He opens a window."  It was a comforting thought.  The door was now closed on all her discomforts and the window of heaven was opened to Life as it was meant to be.  Although she had just turned 65, we could not wish her back to the life she endured after her massive heart attack a year earlier. God's timing is right.  It seems impossible that thirty years have passed since that day.  We still miss you Mom.

On a brighter note, I am looking forward to company from Alberta this weekend.  I'll tell you more in my next blog post!  Have a good rest of the week.

  1. I still miss her too! We became close during the years she lived in Saskatoon.
