| Torquay Tree in winter |
Did you miss my Wednesday Words this week? Well, I did too! I spent most of the week in the city and didn't bring my computer along so have been out of touch. On Friday I spent the day at the farm and now I have my iMac set up here in the dining-room.
I had planned to spend the weekend at the farm, but the forecast sent me back early. SNOW is in the forecast, our first of the season. So I brought back winter boots and winter jacket so I'm getting ready to face WINTER.
The days go by quickly it seems. I usually spend the mornings at the house, then head for St. Joseph's after lunch and spend the afternoons with Howard. Sometimes we go to the cafeteria for coffee and a visit with whoever is at "our table". Yesterday we had coffee and ice cream in the dining area, then went to Aunt Viola's room for a visit in her cosy room. She has lots of stories to tell about "the early days". She is already planning her 95th birthday party next June!
Sandra and I both have "round birthdays" coming up in 2012. Todd has suggested that we celebrate by coming to Norway for a visit. We just might take you and Kristy up on that! I've never been to Norway in the summer so that would be a first to be there in mid July. Todd would like the four of us to spend a week in the Bømlo area south of Bergen, where Mom's mother was from. It's not far from Tysnes where Grandpa Haaland was born. I haven't visited that area or the Sogn area where the Stenson family came from. My great grandfather, Peder Stenson, was born there in 1850. I don't think we'd find any relatives in that area, but who knows! It's a good thing that we explored the areas where the Johnson and Bergum families lived as I don't think that Howard will be taking another trip to Norway. We have certainly enjoyed our four trips to "the home country". We took a bus tour on the first one and a Mediterranean cruise on the last one with numerous memorable side trips on all four. We'd never have done any of this if Todd and Kristy hadn't been living in Norway. It's great to spend time in their home and get a feel for what it's like to live in Norway, not just see it as a tourist.
So far, no snowfall in this area, but I see it's still in the forecast for today. I won't be disappointed if this forecast is wrong! Have a good week, all of you. Tomorrow is election day in Saskatchewan. I voted in the advance poll in Estevan so I don't have to make a special trip to Torquay tomorrow. I hope to be back on schedule with Wednesday Words this week. I left the cord for my camera at the farm so don't have any pictures to post today. Or I thought that I didn't. I just checked my files and found two more pictures of the "Torquay tree" so will post them so you can see it in two other seasons.
I'm updating this at nine a.m. Now that it's light out, I see that we have had some snow overnight, and it is snowing and blowing as I type this. I had four visitors in the back yard this morning - three small deer and a little bunny rabbit. I think I'll stay indoors today and visit Howard via phone. I talked to him and he was just getting up so he'll have to head down for breakfast before it's over with.
