Rain - off again, on again, off again, on again.

I'm going to be different this week and work on my blog on Saturday instead of Sunday. I might add more tomorrow, you never know so you better check it out just in case!

No combining on the Johnson farm this week. We did have a couple days without rain, then back it came. Lawns and pastures have never been so lush in September! I was just out and cut our lawn tonight. I should have kept track of all the times it has been cut this summer!

Well, I did spend most of Labour Day in the basement, but not on my new machine. I got it out, along with the instruction book, and the first task was to wind the bobbin. I followed the path that the thread was to take, got it through the bobbin and onto the holder, pushed it to the right as directed. Then I pressed on the foot pedal. It made a noise like it was working but nothing turned! I tried again, even unplugged the machine for awhile but nothing helped. I was anxious to try the machine so I wound the bobbin on my old machine and placed it in the Janome. The machine worked great and I tried out most of the 30 stitches, no problem. But a machine that doesn't wind it's own bobbin isn't really worth keeping so I filled out a form on Amazon.com, got a mailing label printed and a report enclosed with the machine. This morning we went to Ambrose and I mailed it back. I haven't decided if I'll try again. There are many for sale at the same price on Amazon but I'm hesitant to order another one unless I actually talk to a dealer to be sure it has been checked out. This one likely hadn't been out of the box since it was packed in China! Anyway, I did accomplish quite a bit on Monday with my Husqvarna by Husky - did some mending that had been waiting for attention for quite awhile. The old machine did a pretty good job so maybe I'll give it some more good workouts and see what it says!

Dawson and Eric were back at school on Tuesday. Dawson is excited to have a male teacher this year and said his week was "awesome". Eric phoned and told about making cowboy cookies yesterday.

Jamie had her first session of playschool on Wednesday morning and made out just fine. Her mom was the parent helper that day but I don't think Jamie needed much help!

Abbey had her 9th birthday on Tuesday with a party after school. There were three centres - nails, hair and makeup! I wondered if Grandma could come and have the works too! Two high school girls helped out Jodi.

I paid a visit to a young stay at home mom who moved with her husband and little girl to Torquay the end of July. Jessica's parents live in Frontier and my sister knows them from her work at the school as Jessica's dad teaches there. It's hard for new people in Torquay to get acquainted with local residents so we need to do more visiting. There's not much visiting among locals either so it's something we should be working to improve.

Since our church service is early tomorrow, we've decided to pay a visit to Milestone. Our last visit was just a quickie to get our pickup so we'll stay a bit longer this time - have dinner with them and watch the Rider game on TV. I made pumpkin pie today so Eric will be happy to have that for dessert.

Howard is making popcorn so I must go and enjoy a bowl or two of that!
