Pentecost Sunday

It's Sunday evening and time to update my blog. It's been such a windy day but it did calm down by 8 o'clock so Clare is out spraying before it rains again tonight. We had about 1/2 an inch yesterday but with the wind today it dried up in a hurry. The forecast is for rain tomorrow and showers on Tuesday so there may be delays again.

Jodi and Abbey came out on Friday evening. Jodi had made an "emergency" trip to Regina for parts for Clare's drills so delivered those to the farm and brought food to the field for the farmer.

Abbey was thrilled to play with one of the four baby kittens. The mother cat moved them right up to the house by the garage door so they are used to us coming and going. Abbey brought "Tiger, tiger" in to the house and put it on a bath towel on the kitchen floor. At first it stayed on the towel, didn't seem to like the feel of the hard kitchen floor. Then they moved to the living-room and kitty was quite happy to venture out on the rug. Soon it was nestled on Abbey's lap and had a nap there, covered up with the towel, much to Abbey's delight. She would love to take it back to Weyburn but will have to be content with her "farm kitten".

The week went by quickly with one trip to Weyburn on Tuesday for Dr. appointments for Howard and for me. We have medicals booked for June 10th so will have to get our blood work done before that. My blood pressure was in the normal range so that's always good to hear.

We didn't do a lot to celebrate the 17th of May. But we did one important thing - we flew the Norwegian flag on our flag pole and we had a couple flags in the dining-room too. We talked to Kristy and Todd in Norway after the celebrations there. It was cool for the morning parades with just a few sprinkles of rain. They spent the rest of the day visiting with friends. May has lots of holidays in Norway - Ascension Day, Syttende Mai and tomorrow they have a holiday for Pentecost. That's the end of the holidays until Christmas! We are spoiled in Canada with a special holiday almost every month. But then Norwegian workers get five weeks of holidays each year so I guess that more than makes up for not having one every month.

I did get some plants in the ground this week - petunias and marigolds. I hope to get some garden in soon, providing the guys get the rototiller going for me. Their seeding seems to take preference for some reason!

It was fun to see the yellow budgies back. It didn't take them long to find the yellow bird feeder on the patio door once I had it cleaned and filled for them. I haven't seen any warblers yet. Those are the only two birds that come for the Niger seed feeder.

The leaves on the trees have really come on with the warm weather early in the week. My tulips didn't last long with all the wind we had. I'm glad to see the hostas poking out of the ground along the sidewalk. I had to show Lindsay and Jamie the one called "Captain Kirk"! I want to get a few more hostas to fill in east of the sidewalk. It's mostly shade there and hostas like that.

Well, it's bedtime so this will be it for tonight. Have a good week, everyone. This hasn't been the best weather for camping on this first long weekend of the season. Hope everyone made out okay in spite of it.
