ANOTHER MOTHERS DAY!

Last night Kirk phoned and said he and the kids were planning to come out and bring KFC for dinner on Sunday. That sounded great so I said I'd make some salads and we'd be home from church around 12:30. They were waiting for us when we got home. Thanks a bunch, Kirk.

The kids were excited to find little kittens right by the step going into the garage. The mother cat had tried moving them into the 79 Ford pickup - jumped to the hood, then in through the open window and had two of them behind the seat. The guys weren't keen on that idea so the poor cat was out of luck there.

After dinner I promised the kids we'd make ice cream so that's what we did. It was a big hit whether in cones or dishes. Carter was wondering if there were any ginger cookies so good thing Grandma had some fresh ones, and a few extra for them to take home. Carter was pleased that he is able to ride one of the adult sized bikes at the farm.

Lindsay was remembering that we hadn't been home at Easter so she wondered if we could have an Easter egg hunt. It was actually quite appropriate as today is the last Sunday in the Easter season, next Sunday being Pentecost. I have a special carton of Resurrection Eggs. Each plastic egg contains a symbol of the Easter story. The last egg is empty to symbolize the empty tomb. We started the hunt in the living-room, then moved out to the front lawn and the kids took turns hiding the eggs. Some were hidden so well that Grandma had a hard time finding them - like in the bird bath or under some dead grass.

Jamie like to play the piano so we played some "duets". We also got to enjoy a favorite book again " Ten Little Rubber Ducks" by Eric Carle.

Last Wednesday we went to Weyburn as Dawson and Eric were playing ball there. Two Milestone teams are in a league with Weyburn so they will play there every second Wednesday. They play at Haig School so I enjoyed taking Ashley to the lovely play park right across the street. Then we went back to the pickup and read "Brown, Bear, Brown Bear" at least six times. She will soon be able to read it herself! She has picked up the "I see....."

On Saturday there was a bridal shower for our neighbour's daughter, Andrea Schnell. It was fun to see Rachelle and Emery too. Stephanie wasn't able to come as she is just starting her own landscaping business. We are sorry to have to miss this garden wedding on July 31st but we are also invited to Kristy's sister's wedding in Brooks, AB the same day. Todd and Kristy will be flying to Calgary on July 23rd. Todd will continue on to Regina and spend part of a week here, then drive out to Brooks on the 29th with us. Kristy's parents live just across the back alley from the church so the Ledenes won't have far to go to Jolene's wedding! The church was being renovated when Todd and Kristy were married so they were married in Dan's home church, Salem Lutheran, at Scandia. Howard's home church also happened to be Salem Lutheran, just two miles north of our farm! We are planning to have the annual service there on August 8 and celebrate Howard's 75th birthday that day too.

Today was sunny and very warm but now it's thundering and I hear rain on the roof. That will put an end to seeding for today. It was enough so Clare could head back to Weyburn for the night. Jodi and Abbey are just back from a weekend trip to Winnipeg where they attended a shower and social for Jodi's niece, Danielle Dufour.

Tomorrow our thoughts will be in Norway as Syttende Mai is their Independence Day. We were in Oslo for that day five years ago on our first trip to Norway. I'll have to get the video out so we can relive the parade and special church service over again. Frontier will be having their annual 17th of May celebration with my sister Sandra as the emcee. The festive table will be spread with numerous Norsk goodies - lefse, krumkake, sandbakkels, flatbrod.......... Makes my mouth water just to think of it! There will be more Norwegian baking there than you will see any place in Norway tomorrow. In fact the most popular food served in Norway will be "grill polse" or hot dogs! Not surprising when children's parades are the highlight of the day and street vendors are the main source of a quick lunch.

The highlight of the week for Todd and Clare was the seventh game of the Philadelphia Flyers versus Boston Bruins, which is Kirk's favorite team. Todd even stayed up until four in the morning to take it all in. When the Phillies were down 3-0 in the first period he was ready to head for bed. But Laurel and Eric were on the phone and just when it looked pretty hopeless for the Flyers, Eric said "THEY SCORED" So Todd got to watch a history making game when the Flyers came back after being down three games to none, only the third team in NHL history to do that. And then to win the final game after being down 3-0 was quite a script!! Now we'll see how they make out against Montreal.

A Sunday evening blog seems to be my pattern lately so if you check this spot once a week that will probably bring you up to date.
