This afternoon I went with some of our accordion group, "Homespun Harmonies,"to the nursing home in Stoughton where we made music for an hour and then enjoyed tea/coffee with the residents. They invited us back for a program in August so I guess we did OK. Susan had picked mostly old favourites to play. Some of the residents sang along so she picked good ones!
Next Tuesday we are playing at Creighton Lodge at 2:00 and Sussex Arms at 4:00 in Estevan. It's good to have two on the same day as several of us drive in from the country. Often we get together for supper and that's always fun too.
One of my other volunteer activities is at the Torquay Library on Playschool days, most Thursday mornings from October through May. They had their school windup the end of May and gathered at the playground at Oungre, where this picture was taken. I will miss these fun two to four year olds over the summer. Those turning five will be off to kindergarten this fall.
Seeing this playground picture reminded me of the new playground equipment that is now in place at Frontier School. It was purchased with funds given in memory of Blaine Sanford, son of my nephew Jason and Marion Sanford. A cookbook was also put together and sold. Those funds also went towards the playground. Here's a picture of that project.
The sign is a quote from Blaine. He had drawn happy faces on a wall in his bedroom. When Marion questioned him about it his response was "Who doesn't love a Happy Face?" What a fitting memorial to this special boy who was such a people person at the age of just under seven years. June 15 marks his ninth birthday.
I just had a text from Todd in Brooks, Alberta! They landed in Calgary this afternoon and were met at the airport with a motorhome that they will share with Kristy's folks. It will be great for them to have their own "home" while travelling around to visit family in Alberta and SK. They plan to camp at Kenosee Provincial Park along with Clare's and Kirk's from June 30 to July 7th. We will join them to celebrate Elly Clara's first birthday! They will be in Canada until the first week in August. Exciting!
With that news I will sign off for tonight. Tomorrow is our 28th (month!) anniversary so flapper pie will be on the menu!
