SPECIAL DAYS

Tulips from a few years back

No pussy willows anymore as the tree has died

I didn't realize how many special days our families and friends have in April - birthdays and anniversaries galore.  I'll put them in order of dates:

1.  Gail (Grimsrud) and Ron Fonstad's 18th anniversary.  They are close neighbours who count as family.

2. Michelle (Miller) Erickson's birthday.  Her husband is our nephew Draven Erickson.  They live in Shaunavon,SK.

3. My Grandma Bertha Helene Haaland was born on this day in 1881 in Urangseter, Norway.

4. Grandma Sophia Jessie Erickson had this birthday.  She was born in 1882 in Glenwood, Minnesota.

5. Cousin Helen (Olson) and John Knox had their 65th wedding anniversary on this day  Congratulations!  Both are in a care home in Lethbridge, AB.  Johnny is taking dialysis three times a week, will be 90 on his next birthday.  They will celebrate this weekend with their family.
Cousin Arlene Erickson had her birthday on this day.  She is the eldest member of the Albert and Sophia Erickson family and I am not far behind her!  Arlene lives in Lethbridge, AB.

6. Marion (Corcoran) Sanford's birthday.  She is married to our nephew Jason Sanford. They farm at Frontier.

8.  Son Kirk and Shauna's (Fornwald) 17th anniversary.  They were married at Salem Church just two miles north of the Johnson farm.  Not many grooms help clean the church before their wedding but Kirk did!

9. Vickie (Bangsund) and Darrell Skjonsby's 51st anniversary.  Vickie and I go back to teaching days at Torquay School.  Now we quilt together on Tuesdays at Trinity and take turns with Vi playing the piano for morning worship services.

11. Son Derek Lutz celebrated his 46th birthday in Calgary with his wife Jackie, sons JJ and Ben.

12. Daughter Laurel and Greg Diekrager's 20th anniversary.  They were married at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Regina.

Happy 92nd birthday to special friend, Art Drewitz of Assiniboia.  Art and Doreen's son Orlo is a good friend of Clare's and was his "big brother" in Commerce at the University of Saskatchewan back in 1988.  Doreen and I met the same year through ELW and still keep in touch.

15.Son Todd Johnson will celebrate his 40th birthday in Berlin, Germany!  They are helping Kristy's great aunt and uncle celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary.  Kristy's folks, Dan and Helga Ledene from Brooks, AB, will meet them there.  Happy Birthday Todd and Happy Easter to the rest of you.

16.  Happy Birthday to Derek's wife, Jackie, who will celebrate her birthday on Easter Sunday!  We look forward to a visit next month.
Sandra's grandson, Ty Nicholas Peakman of Lacombe, AB, also has an Easter Sunday birthday.  He's hoping to spend his12th birthday at the Sanford farm.

24.  Kristy's Dad, Dan Ledene, will celebrate a milestone birthday this year.  Welcome to the seventies!

30.  Nephew Devan Erickson has a birthdate to remember - the deadline to have our income tax papers in the mail!

I'm sure I have missed some special days and don't look for a similar list every month!  April just happened to have so many special days, besides having a later Easter this year.

I am finishing this on Good Friday.  We worshiped at Trinity this morning in remembrance of this day when Jesus gave His life for us.  Our service consisted of readings from the gospel of John 18:1 to 19:3 interspersed with hymns from our Lutheran Book of Worship and a meditation based on. Isaiah 53.

We look forward to having some of the Johnson family home this weekend.  Clare plans to move their camper down in preparation for staying here for seeding time.  Last fall he and Jerry put in sewer lines to the lagoon for the campers so we will soon have a "modern" campground right here in the yard.

We will have a 40th birthday party tomorrow for Todd, even though he won't be with us.  We'll have his favourite lemon cake and slushburgers.  Have a great 40th in Berlin, Germany Todd!  Our thoughts and prayers are with you even if we can't be!

A blessed Easter to all readers of this blog.
