| The driveway is impassible! |
Monday brought quite a change with the arrival of a blizzard moving in from the south. It was forecast so it wasn't a surprise but the intensity of it was more than expected. The wind is still howling after two full days! It started with light snow falling which became heavier as the day progressed. Soon the wind came up and it hasn't let up for two days. Our driveway is blocked with big snow drifts, most highways in SE SK are either closed or travel not recommended. The sad part is that people don't heed warnings and take chances on getting through in these poor conditions with white outs at times. Cars are stranded along the roads and in ditches. Tow truck drivers, police force, ambulance drivers and others trying to help, risk their lives attempting to rescue passengers.
It is expected to calm down tomorrow morning so it will be safe for road clearing equipment to start working again. There were some power outages north east of Estevan but power crews were not going out until conditions improve. Many school buses didn't run so the students in some areas have had two snow days and possibly a third one tomorrow as it will take a while to get the roads open.
I am reminded of a similar storm back in the seventies when Laurel and Clare went to school on Monday morning and came home on Friday. It wasn't a kindergarten day so Kirk was home, an only child for the week! The other two were billeted at Aunt Dorma's. Ruby and Lloyd Enget were up from Powers Lake visiting her mother and were storm stayed there too, a big plus for the kids as Lloyd was so good at entertaining them, playing checkers and other games with them.
Ashley had four friends out on Friday after school to celebrate her 9th birthday. Here's a picture of her on her special day.

On Wednesday Eric can have his picture taken with "It's my day" as he will be 14 tomorrow. His card didn't get mailed on Monday as we didn't get to town as we were planning! I doubt if the mail went out anyway.
It was a very cold and windy day on March 8, 2003 but at least it wasn't storming so we drove to Regina that day to meet our third grandson. He is the youngest of the three, so no little boys in the family anymore but three tall, handsome teenagers!
We spent much of the weekend in Estevan watching Abbey's team curl in Regionals. They won two of the three Friday games but lost the morning game on Saturday so will not move on to provincials in Moose Jaw this weekend. They are a young team so will have another chance next year. On March 18 they will curl in an 18 and under girls spiel in Weyburn with the winning team going to provincials in that category. Good luck girls!
We enjoyed an overnight stay at Super 8 on Friday night. We especially enjoyed the jacuzzi in our room!

It's a good thing that we went to Estevan as we stocked up on a few groceries and are well able to weather the storm, even if it lasts all week! When we live over thirty miles from the store, we learn to stock up.
Clare had a new dugout made a few weeks ago. It was timely as it already had some water in it after the mild weather we had for a week. Here's a picture of it taken before the storm. It will look a lot different now after the snow storm!
Our quilting day was cancelled due to the storm. I did some "homework", finished a quilt top to bring to next week's session. Maybe I'll even get started on another one tomorrow! Have a good week and I hope conditions are back to normal for my next post!
