JUNE 7th

Our "pet" deer drinking out of the cat's water bowl!
Our house was topsyturvy last week but this week is much better so I'll tackle my blog post this evening while Alan is keeping track of the Blue Jays game.  He gave up on last night's game as the Jays were losing badly so I don't know what the final score was! Tonight is a better game against Detroit.  I just checked and saw the top of the 9th inning.  Jays had bases loaded, two outs but couldn't get a run so now it's 2-0 Jays with the Tigers last chance at bat.

Back to last week, we had new flooring installed in our kitchen/dining-room and hallway.  It was supposed to be a two day job but ended up being four so we got used to having the fridge in the living-room and the stove in the washroom!  Stacey and Danielle from the Floor Store did a great job and we are very pleased with the result.  It's not easy laying flooring in a log house as there are so many juts where the log walls join and they have to be trimmed around.  The flooring is vinyl 12"x 24" tiles with cork backing.

We had a problem with our fridge last week too when it quit cooling!  We went to Sholter and Horsman as that's where it was purchased.  Repairman Shawn suggested that it might be stuck in defrost mode and told Alan what to try.  When we got home Alan gave the screw a turn with his screwdriver and away it went!  While we were in the store we walked by the kitchen table and chairs and saw one that we both liked.  So instead of having to buy a new fridge, we purchased a kitchen set instead!  Here's a picture of our "new" kitchen.

Just checked on the ballgame, the Tigers tied it up in the bottom of the ninth so it could be a LONG game.  Maybe I'll get my blog post finished before the game ends!

Todd, Kristy and Nora are enjoying holidays in the much warmer southern part of Norway.  These pictures were taken in Kristiansand.(not Kristiansund where they used to live.)  Can you imagine a country having two cities with just one letter to differentiate them - u or a.  Postal codes must have solved a lot of problems with mixed up deliveries!

From Kristiansand they visited Stavanger so perhaps they are back home now.

We are going to Weyburn tomorrow so I can get the blood pressure monitor on for 24 hours.  It will take a reading every half hour in the daytime and every hour at night.  I wonder if I'll get much sleep?  Time will tell.

Play school is over for the year so I won't be at the library every Thursday morning until play school resumes in the fall.  Four of the girls will move on to kindergarten so I will miss Amie, Ava, Julie and Katie next year.  It has been fun to share some of the classic children's books with them - Curious George, Peter Rabbit, The Three Bears and many others.  I am reminded of my Aunt Ruth whose only advice to her daughter after the birth of her first baby was "Read to him."  It is wonderful advice and should be heeded by every parent (and grandparent!).

Our closest city, Estevan, is hosting the SK summer games next month.  Last Friday they officially opened a new track and Lindsay took part in several events.  It was a rainy afternoon so we didn't go in for it but maybe Shauna has some pictures to share.  We also missed Abbey's band concert last Tuesday evening.  It was such a windy, rainy day that we decided not to venture out, especially coming home after dark!  (Two cars hit moose between Torquay and Estevan last week.)

I enjoyed going to Ashley's first piano recital a week ago at the United Church in Milestone.  The pieces the students played were difficult ones so I would have liked to have seen them playing easier ones and doing well rather than struggling with ones that were a challenge.  One of Ashley's pieces was "Teddy Bear's Picnic".  She loved the song and worked hard at it but it was just too tough a piece for a beginning student. Here's a picture of her at the piano.  Grandma Gaylene and Auntie Danita also came so Ashley had lots of support, besides Mom and Dad.

Well, the ball game is over, not a Blue Jay win unfortunately.  But we'll keep watching and hope they do better next time.

Enjoy the very WARM weather forecast for this week .  I hope the tornado alerts for Thursday don't materialize!

p.s.  Be sure to check out Suzy Krause's blog post updating the progress on the old house that her grandma bought at an auction sale!  (It's on the list at the top right of my post, just click to get there.)
