PEACHES AND APPLES

Filling the shelves!
I try to do my blog post on Sunday evening but last night we watched a movie on Netflix instead.  Since xplornet put up a new satellite dish we are able to use our Smart TV and watch Netflix movies on TV instead of on the computer.  The movie we watched last night was "Elsa and Fred." The preview reads "They say it's never too late to fall in love again.  Well these two are out to prove them right."  That sounds like our story!  Christopher Plummer and Shirley Maclaine entertained us well last night.

It's harvest time!  No, not in the fields yet but the apples on our tree are ripe, Elberta peaches arrived at Supervalu in Crosby and the chokecherries are ready to pick!  So it's been a busy week at the farm.  I brought home six cases of peaches but three are for "the kids".  Shauna cans her own and I will do a case for Laurel's and for Clare's. The peaches were smaller this year due to lack of moisture in California, but they are just as good and so sweet.  We love eating them raw!

Next Sunday is the annual service at Salem Lutheran Church just two miles north of our farm.  It will be at 10:30 am and you are welcome to join us. Pastor Danny Krauss will be leading the service.  Bring your picnic lunch and stay for fellowship after the service.  The Tannas/Durr families are having a reunion that weekend so family members will be joining us at the service.  Lawrence and Jessie (Durr) Tannas are buried in Salem Cemetery.

The railings by the step at Salem were looking tough with rust. When we were cleaning at Trinity a can of white rust paint was found.  I took it home and Alan gave the railings two coats of paint. Then the front door looked drab beside the railings so one thing leads to another.  Today Phil is bringing out a can of white exterior paint so Alan can paint the door before Sunday's service!

We are so thankful to Keith Hanson who comes out from Estevan and mows the grass at Salem whenever it needs it.  He never lets it get shabby.  It is a wonderful service and shows "the power of one".

Last week Dawson was at a hockey camp in Regina.  This week Eric is in Weyburn for hockey school so Laurel and the kids are living in their camper at Riverside Park.  Perhaps we'll get up to visit them one day.

Clare, Jodi and Abbey enjoyed the weekend at Bengough, SK at the 11th annual Gateway Music Festival featuring a variety of music with bands from all over Saskatchewan and names such as Ian Tyson and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

Kirk's spent Saturday boating at Mainprize Park just north of Torquay.  I'm not sure if they did any fishing but the kids have fun wake boarding.

It was fun to visit with Todd, Krisy and Nora via Facetime on Saturday.  They had been to Ikea in Bergen to shop for furniture for their new home.  Here's a picture of Nora and a friend having fun in the sand at Førde, Norway.

Alan's daughter Nancy and granddaughter Holly are coming this weekend so it is fun getting ready for their first visit here.  On Thursday we are meeting his son Derek, Jackie, Ben and JJ in Regina.  They are on their way back to Calgary from a visit to Jackie's parents in Oakville, Ontario.  Summer is a great time to catch up with family and friends!

To update on Rhett: He had his halo removed last week and they got back to their farm last night.  Here's his picture with the halo off  and a collar on, and a haircut!

Now it's time to get to work.  The peaches are waiting!  Have a great week.  Hard to believe that my next post will be in August!!
