SIX HUNDRED!

#600

I find it hard to believe that I am writing my six hundredth blog post!  Some of you faithful readers may have read every one! I started blogging in February, 2010 so it will soon be seven years since my first blog.  I was never good at keeping a diary so I'm pleased that I am still blogging.  My intention was to have a new post every week.  I haven't kept that up but at least I've had one every month!

I wanted to make this post special but Alan reminded me that each one is special, much like birthdays.  We tend to celebrate the "round ones" but in reality, each one is special and we never know when we will celebrate our last one.  Six year old Blaine Sanford brought that lesson home for us when his sixth birthday was the last one with his family.  Every morning I am thankful for another day for Alan and I to be together.

We enjoyed a special occasion on Saturday at the Estevan Curling Rink.  Two of our grandchildren were curling in a Junior bonspiel on the weekend.  Lindsay was part of a mixed team from Lampman in the 15 years and under category.  Abbey was playing with three other girls from Weyburn in the 18 and under group.  We didn't take in the Friday night games, but the girls were off to a good start as both their teams won.  We saw them both win their next two games. Abbey's team was undefeated after four games, all against boys teams, and won gold.  Lindsay's team lost the final and were awarded silver medals. Great work team Lindsay and team Abbey!

Laurel was excited when she found out that Eric's Bantam hockey team will be playing Frontier in the first round of provincials! The Frontier game is on Feb. 17 and the Milestone one on Feb. 24. We are thinking of going to Frontier if weather and roads are okay for these senior grandparents.

We will be going to Estevan on Tuesday, Jan. 31 for the funeral service for Camby Forrester.  Camby and Ruby lived two miles west of Torquay before retiring to Estevan.  Here's a link to Halls Funeral Home for his obituary and a life history.  Our sympathy to the family, and especially to Hartley and Louise Halvorson and family.  Louise is Camby's eldest daughter.  Hartley and Howard were cousins.  Camby would have been 98 years old in February.

Speaking of 98 year olds, Dorthea Sabin is renewing her passport at that age and getting the ten year one!

Congratulations to Todd and the volleyball team that he coaches at the folk school in Førde, Norway.  His team won the national championship so he was very happy with that victory. (And Kristy was glad to have him home after four nights away, with Elly Clara having a tooth coming in and Nora with a fever.)

I will miss our quilting session tomorrow.  We have had as many as ten ladies out for the day so the church pews are filling up with quilts and afghans. Many have sewn quilt tops at home. We also have a big box full of baby sweaters and bonnets that Olga has been busy making to put in baby layettes. It's a fun day with morning and afternoon coffee as well as a potluck dinner so there's good fellowship along with the tying and sewing!  We will meet every Tuesday until the end of March.

Well, I better sign off for now.  Thanks for reading!  I checked to see which blog post have had the most views so here's the list:
