JANUARY 26

Frosty Morning at the Farm (Thanks for the picture, Clare!)
Time for a "catch up" blog, a little sooner than last time!

One of the highlights of the past week was that I have now been a grandmother for fifteen years!  Dawson David Diekrager arrived at Regina General Hospital on January 22, 2001.  I was the last of my siblings to be a grandparent but was blessed with three grandchildren in 2001 so I soon caught up with my siblings! 2016 will be a great year too as grandchild #9 is due in July to Todd and Kristy in Førde, Norway!

Another highlight of the past week was attending a special "tea" put on by the grade six and seven classes at Lampman School.  Lindsay phoned the week before to invite me to their tea from one to two on Tuesday, Januaray 19th.  My only concern was the weather and roads but it turned out to be a great day for both.  I stopped in Estevan to pick up Phyllis Hurren as her granddaughter Jenna is in the same class as Lindsay.  We had a good visit on the way and arrived in Lampman about 12:45.  Our families drove in to the school parking lot at the same time!

We visited while we waited for the one o'clock bell to ring and then it was tea time in the library!  The students had done a lot of research on tea and had made charts on the different aspects of tea - the history of tea, different kinds of tea, how to make tea.  Jenna showed us the proper way to drink a cup of tea.  Lindsay told us about the different kinds of tea pots and showed us several on display.  Then we were treated to our choice of tea served with dainties provided by several of the student's moms.  (Shauna's brownies are always a hit! They were served on a special antique glass plate that was her Mom's)  The bell rang for recess but the students opted to stay in and finish the tea!  Phyllis and I drove back to Estevan after a special time together at our granddaughters' tea. Thanks girls!

I got two quilt tops made this week so took them along to quilting on Monday.  One was made from twelve squares that were meant for cushion tops.   Three squares didn't quite make sixty inches wide so I added strips on each side of the rows of squares to make the top the right size.  And I got rid of fabric that had been around for far too long!  The other top was made of nine inch squares, most had been cut and waiting for some time.  I did have to cut eight more squares to make the needed sixty-three.  I am working on another top with nine inch squares.  Now that I am in a sewing mood I must keep it up!

Sandra sent two large bags of gently used baby clothes and receiving blankets for the layettes that our ladies group at Trinity puts together, mostly for Lutheran World Relief.  Special thanks to the two ladies who donated these many items.  They will be put to good use and much appreciated by mothers in lands far away.  Thanks also to Carolyn Cranna who coordinates the layette project at Trinity, along with Vi Sabin and Narrie Lowe who are in charge of the quilting.  We each have a job to do and we have a job for you to do too if you are able to lend us a hand on Mondays or to sew a top or two at home.  LWR asks for quilts to be 60" by 80".

We are enjoying seasonable weather this week with temperatures above zero in the forecast for the next few days.  January is on the way out and the days are getting longer.  We have been blessed with a wonderful winter so far, no storms like the east coast have been getting and just a few inches of snow on the level.

Bread baking is on the agenda this morning so I better get at it.  I'll be in touch again in a couple weeks.  See you then!
